2012 POSTER CONTEST WINNERS

Judges Select Winning 2012 Concert on the Green Poster!

Five talented students were chosen by a distinguished panel of judges on March 13th to be the 2012 winners of the annual Concert on the Green Poster Competition. Overall, 58 entries were received for this year's Competition from Clay County Elementary, Junior and High School visual art students.

The mission of Concert on the Green is to provide music and visual art scholarship opportunities to Clay County students by celebrating the talents of these students during an annual outdoor event. The 25th Annual concert, showcasing the student art and music scholarship winners, will be held on Sunday, May 27th in Green Cove Springs at Magnolia Point Golf and Country Club.

- Senior Division -

The 1st place position was won by Leonard Whittney, a 10th grader at Orange Park High School. His winning poster is titled "Mystic Piano". Leonard has been studying art for four years and is a member of the Art Club. He hopes to use his talents in the study of Art in college. His poster will be used in this year's Concert on the Green advertising poster and the cover design for the event program.

The 2nd place winner, a Clay High School senior, was Rachel Gindler. Her poster is titled "Jazz Trio". Ms. Gindler is a student of Erin Strohschein.

Although new to the Concert on the Green competition, Ridgeview High School sophomore Taylor Land, is no novice to placing in art contests. Taylor's work previously received the People's Choice Award at the 2011 Clay County Agricultural Fair. His poster "Moonlight Madness" won this year's 3rd place spot.

New this year, two Honorable Mention honors will be awarded as part of the Senior Division competition. Our 4th place winner, a Fleming Island High School sophomore, was Avery Nielson. Her poster is titled "Inspiration". This is Avery's first art competition. She enjoys playing tennis, swimming and photography.

A previous awardee from the 2010 Clay County Art Show and 2011 Concert on the Green Poster Contest, Morgan Stout won our 5th place award. A 12th grader at Middleburg High School and student of Adam Goodwin, Morgan won this honor with the poster titled "The Elements of Music".

In his first year of art studies, Andrew Hoger, a freshman at Fleming Island High School, won the Junior Division. His artwork is titled "The Art of Music" and he hopes to study Music in college.

Our Junior Division Honorable Mention award winner's work is titled "Colors of the Wind"Hannah Weatherspoon, a freshman at Fleming Island High School, enjoys playing the guitar and keeping physically fit.

- Elementary Division -

The Elementary Division award will go to Kerra Roxas for her work titled "Night of the Wild Music". Kerra is a 6th grader at Thunderbolt Elementary and is a student of Desiree Wolfanger. She hopes to study Architecture & Computer Graphics in college.

- People's Choice Award -

During the Young Artist Concerto Competition Finals on April 23rd, all 58 poster entries were on display. It allowed all attendees to vote for the artwork they liked best. The People's Choice Winner was awarded to Irene Ramos for her work titled "Pouring Harmonies". Irene is a senior at Fleming Island High School and is an art student of Michael Green.
