2011 POSTER CONTEST WINNERS

Orange Park High School Sweeps the Top 3 Prizes for Concert on the Green Poster Contest!

Three talented students of Ms. Carrie Keene at Orange Park High School (OPHS) were chosen by a distinguished panel of judges on February 18th to be the 2011 winners of the annual Concert on the Green Poster Competition. Over 90 applications were received for this year's Competition from Clay County Junior and High School visual art students.

The mission of the Concert on the Green (COG) is to provide music and visual art scholarship opportunities to Clay County students by celebrating the talents of these students during an annual outdoor event. The Concert on the Green has been held for 21 of the last 23 years. In 2011, the concert, showcasing the student art and music scholarship winners, will be held on May 29th during the largest Community cultural event in Clay County, the 23rd Annual Riverfest Memorial Day Celebration in Green Cove Springs.

The winners of the 2011 Poster contest were all new participants in the competition. The 1st place position was won by Christina Stanley, a 10th grader at OPHS. Her winning poster is titled "Let the Music Flow". Christina has been studying art for only 3 years and is a member of the National Art Honor Society. She hopes to use her art talents in the study of architecture in college. Her poster will be used in advertisement for the Memorial Day concert and will be on display at the weekend event May 28 - 30, 2011.

The 2nd place winner, an OPHS senior, was Jesenia Lopez. Her poster is titled "Red Haired Symphony". Ms. Lopez is active in art, varsity soccer and swimming at OPHS.

Although new to the COG competition, OPHS senior Nina Avis is no novice to placing in art contests. Nina's work has previously placed 1st in the annual "Chalk Walk," and in the Clay County Art Show. Her poster "Lights and the Saxophone" won this year's 3rd place spot.

Two Honorable Mention honors will be awarded as part of the competition. A previous awardee from the Clay County Art Show, Morgan Stout won the Concert on the Green Honorable Mention for the Senior Division. An 11th grader at Middleburg High School and student of Adam Goodwin, Morgan won this honor with the poster titled "Musical Sunset". Finally the Honorable Mention Junior Division award will go to Megan Buzby for her work titled "Streams of Sound". Megan is an 8th grader at Orange Park Junior High and is a student of Abbie Shipe.
