Scholarship Information

The winning students will be awarded scholarships for use towards their college education or use in summer arts camps. All scholarship awards MUST be claimed within 24 months of high school graduation. The amount of scholarships is based on the success of fundraising events for Concert on the Green. The fundraising for the scholarships is based solely on support from Clay County residents and businesses and any proceeds from Concert on the Green events. Donations are appreciated and can be made at any time.

2025 Young Artists Music Competition

Concert on the Green is pleased to announce the 2025 Music Competition for Clay County students.  This young artist event is designed to promote music education in Clay County. The winner will be chosen through a competitive audition process.  The winner will receive a scholarship award that can be used toward music or college expenses. 

Award amounts:

Senior division, instrumental:  1st - $1000, 2nd- $750, 3rd - $500

Senior division, vocal: 1st - $1000, 2nd - $750, 3rd - $500

Junior division: 1st- $300, 2nd - $200, 3rd - $100

Winners may have the opportunity to perform at Cocoa & Carols 2025, a winners’ recital at Penney Farms, KidsFest 2025, and with the Clay County Community Band. 

Eligibility:  To be eligible, students must either live in Clay County or attend a school in Clay County. Students in grades 9-12 will compete in the Senior Division. Students in grades 7-9 will compete in the Junior Division. As a 9th grader, students may choose to enter either division.  Students can be chosen as the first place soloist winner more than once, but not in consecutive years for the same division. 

Pay attention to your inbox for when your audition is scheduled. Auditions will be held at Wehner’s School of the Arts on March 29, 2025. Be sure to bring 3 copies of your selection for the judges as well as the original editions.

Application Guidelines

INSTRUMENTALISTS

Participants may choose their own piece for the competition. 

Applicant's audition must be accompanied (except for pianists).  Applicant may arrange for an accompanist.  At the request of the applicant, an accompanist will be provided at no cost provided that the applicant requests the accompanist on their application and uses the accompanist approved by Concert on the Green.  If applicant chooses to bring in an outside accompanist, all fees are the responsibility of the applicant.

  • Senior Division: participants must perform a solo piece that is at least a grade 5.

*While senior division participants are not required to play a concerto, please be aware that if you do play a concerto that is arranged with band accompaniment, you may have the opportunity to perform the piece with the Clay County Community Band if you are a winner. If you have questions about this, please reach out to Paula Summers. 

  • Junior Division: participants must perform a solo piece that is at least a grade 3. 

VOCALISTS

Participants should choose their own pieces for the competition that are appropriate for their ability and vocal range. 

All vocalist participants must perform TWO pieces:

  • One piece must be traditional or classical*
  • One piece must be Broadway
  • For vocalists in the senior division, one piece must be performed in a foreign language

Vocal solos may be performed in any key, published or transposed.

Songs with titles listed in a foreign language must be performed in that language.

Songs with titles listed in English may also be performed in another published language.

*”Traditional” includes folk songs, spirituals, etc. “Classical” includes art songs, arias, solos from oratorios, etc. Please note that “pop” is not an accepted category for this contest.
