2019 POSTER CONTEST WINNERS

115 elementary, junior, and high school students entered the 2019 Concert on the Green Poster Competition where judges rated the art on originality, creativity, and artistic elements. The Clay County Schools participating this year were: Clay High School, Fleming Island High School, Lake Asbury Junior High School, Orange Park High School, Orange Park Junior High, Lakeside Junior High, Wilkinson Junior High, and Middleburg Elementary School.

The contest, which encourages school art students to create art representative of musical performances in an outdoor setting, was coordinated by Ms. Carron Wedlund of the Art Guild of Orange Park.

The winning posters in the Senior, Junior, and Elementary Divisions were on public display at the 2019 Clay County Fair in the J.P. Hall Pavilion. The winning posters will be on display in the art gallery at the Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts until May 24, 2019, and can be viewed at any time that the box office is open. All student winners will be recognized and presented with prizes on May 26 at the Concert on the Green annual event held at the Plantation Sports Complex, 321 Old Hard Road in Fleming Island.

The scholarship-winning artwork, as well as artwork submitted by 20 additional students, specifically chosen by the competition judges for merit, will also be on display at the Orange Park Library during the month of July.

- Senior Division -

Shelby McLees, a junior at Clay High School and student of Ms. Catharine Mallard is the winner of the 2019 Concert of the Green poster contest.

Shelby's art, titled "Melodic Muse", will serve as the event's official poster and be printed on the front cover of the program for the 2019 outdoor event. The May 26th concert event this year will be on the soccer grounds of  the Plantation Sports Complex, 321 Old Hard Road in Fleming Island. The 32nd annual event features local bands, family activities, food trucks and is highlighted by an outdoor concert by the Jacksonville Symphony. The event will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show.

Thank you to all the students who entered this year's contest, and to the schools that offered them this creative outlet as a way to expand their education. Activities involving art and music encourage students to explore, experiment and problem solve. Artistic and musical pursuits provide a universal language that can open the door to a world of possibilities.

Capturing second place in the Senior Division was Sara Boatright, a senior at Orange Park High School (instructor Ms. Carrie Keene), followed by third place winner Kayla White, a sophomore at Orange Park High and also a student of Ms. Carrie Keene.
