The annual Concert on the Green, Howard Tappan Memorial Young Artists Concerto Competition is an excellent opportunity for instrumental and vocal students in Clay County. Winning students not only receive a scholarship award, they enjoy the opportunity to perform at the Concert on the Green event on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.

Four high school students took the top awards in Clay County's 2015 Concert on the Green Concerto Competition. Twenty-four Clay County students entered the competition and auditioned in an initial round of judging on Saturday, April 11. Eight students were selected for the finalist competition, held at Grace Anglican Church in Fleming Island. Judging the evening event were Scott Gregg, James Hall, and Kevin Reid; the piano accompanists were Diane Combs, Brenda Scott, Nancy Scott and Bonita Wyke; scoring was performed by Gary Combs and event photography was provided by Jeff Elliott.

The first place vocal and instrumental winners―senior Joseph Plumlee, a tenor who attends Clay High School and junior violinist, Selah Welton (Home Schooled) respectively―will receive monetary scholarships that may be used for college tuition or other music education or training. In addition, the two first place winners will perform as soloists with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra at Concert on the Green on Sunday, May 24, at St. Johns Country Day School, Orange Park. The main stage for the evening will be set up on the football field on the SJCDS campus.

All of the finalists will present a recital at the Penney Farms Memorial Church on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 7:00 pm. The public is welcome to come hear these talented Clay County students!
