The winning students will be awarded scholarships for use towards their college education or use in summer arts camps. All scholarship awards MUST be claimed within 12 months of high school graduation. The amount of scholarships is based on the success of fundraising events for Concert on the Green. The fundraising for the scholarships is based solely on support from Clay County residents and businesses and any proceeds from the Memorial Day Concert on the Green event. Donations are appreciated and can be made at any time here.
- 2018 Jazz Competition -
Concert on the Green is pleased to announce the Bill Prince Outstanding Jazz Musician Award to begin in 2018 and will continue as an on-going scholarship award.
The winner will be chosen through a competitive audition process and, based on the audition, may perform on the main stage at Concert on the Green on May 27, 2018 at St. Johns Country Day School. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship award that can be used toward musicor college expenses.
To be eligible, students must either live in Clay County or attend a school in Clay County.Students in grades 9-12 may compete in the jazz competition.

Application Guidelines – Jazz Competition
One award will be provided based on the audition. The Bill Prince Outstanding Jazz Musician Award Winner must be available to perform as a highlighted portion of the main Concert on the Green event on stage with jazz combo if chosen to perform. If the scholarship winner is selected to perform at the concert event on May 27th, the piece that was used for audition will be performed with his/her selected jazz combo of student musicians; however, a professional combo will be supplied depending on level of student competency.
Auditions will be critiqued primarily on the following criteria:
- Ability to play the melody clearly without alteration
- Ability to improvise within the context of the music
- Individual Expression, Originality and Musical Maturity
A rhythm section consisting of a bass player, drummer and piano player will be provided for the
audition as needed by the student applicant. The student may request to bring their own combo for the audition; the judges will determine combo use on audition day.

Rules and Submission Guidelines for COG Poster Contest
The annual Concert on the Green Poster Contest is an excellent opportunity for students and their art programs. Winning students not only receive a scholarship award, they receive recognition for their work and will have a copy of a juried piece for their portfolios.
When submitting a poster for our contest, make sure that your art follows the theme and is sized properly. Consider the music and/or the instruments of a symphony. Be sure to ask your art teacher for help or feedback when designing your poster.
Who is Eligible? ANY school-age student residing in Clay County, grades 4 – 12. Students from public, private or home schools and those who attend a school outside Clay County as long as they reside in Clay County.
Theme: The theme of the poster contest is ‘A SYMPHONIC CELEBRATION of the Arts’. The purpose of the contest is to encourage Clay County students to seek and learn more about the finest forms of visual art and music. Note:There is also a separate category for the Military.
Entry Requirements: There is no cost for entry. Only one poster per student is allowed. The poster design must cover a 11" x 12" section of a 11" x 17" paper or canvas (saving 5" on BOTTOM) using any artistic medium.
All submitted artwork is released to Concert on the Green for the exclusive use of Concert on the Green. If you need a copy for your portfolio, take a picture beforehand.
You must complete the following STEPS:

- Fill out CONTEST CHECKLIST SUBMISSION FORM
- Attach CONTEST CHECKLIST SUBMISSION FORM to the backside of your poster art
- Deliver your poster art by Friday, March 2, 2018 to Orange Park Town Hall.
Contest Deadline: All entries must be turned in by March 2, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
An online application and checklist application form MUST be completed with final entries delivered to Orange Park Town Hall, 2042 Park Ave, Orange Park, FL 32073, to the office of Emily Dockery. No late entries will be accepted.
Judging: Judging will be based on the artwork that will make the best POSTER for the upcoming Concert on the Green event on Sunday, May 27, 2018. (Suggestion: As you compose your artwork, step back to view how visible the images and text is from a short distance.) Judging will be performed by at least three judges chosen for their expertise in visual arts and printing. Winners will be announced on or before Friday, March 31, 2018 and the winning entries will be framed for display and for the use of Concert on the Green.
Prizes will be awarded in three divisions:
Elementary Division (4th - 6th grade)
First Place, Second Place, and Honorable Mention (cash award and May concert tickets)
Junior Division (7th and 8th grade)
First Place (scholarship), Second Place, and Honorable Mention (cash award and May concert tickets)
Senior Division (9th – 12th grade)
- Receives a scholarship* to the college or art camp of choice
- Winner’s school program will receive a matching program grant
- Will be recognized as the official 2018 Concert on the Green poster artist in all advertising media
Second and Third Place:
- Receives a scholarship* to the college or art camp of choice
- Recognition on Concert website, Clay County Fair and other advertising media
Honorable Mention and Honoring Our Military Award:
- Receives a cash reward and concert tickets
- Recognition on Concert website
*All scholarship awards must be claimed within 12 months of high school graduation.
The Clay County school program responsible for producing the winning poster will receive a program grant, in addition to recognition via Concert on the Green press releases and news articles. All student winners will be recognized on the Concert on the Green website, at the Clay County Fair, and at our Memorial Day Weekend Concert on Sunday, May 27, 2018.
- 2018 Young Artists Music Competition -
Concert on the Green is pleased to announce the 2018 Music Competition for Clay County students. This young artist event is designed to promote music education in Clay County by providing talented students an opportunity to perform a solo work with the Jacksonville Symphony. The winner will be chosen through a competitive audition process and will perform with the Jacksonville Symphony in concert on May 27, 2018 at St. Johns Country Day School. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship award that can be used toward music or college expenses.
To be eligible, students must either live in Clay County or attend a school in Clay County. Students in grades 9-12 will compete in the Senior Division. Students in grades 6-9 will compete in the Junior Division. As a 9th grader, students may choose to enter either division.
Be sure that the musical selections you choose are arranged for Orchestral Accompaniment. Check with your instructor or contact us to get approval for your piece, as well to answer any questions you may have.
Pay attention to your inbox for when your audition is scheduled.
When it comes time for your audition, be sure to bring a picture of yourself, 3 copies of your selection for the judges as well as the original editions. Please set time aside in your schedule for the finals, as well as the Penney Farms outreach recital on May 16th, 2018.
Participants may choose their own piece for the competition. However, if a “Young Artist Winner” is declared, Concert on the Green reserves the right to request an alternate piece for performance that is part of the Jacksonville Symphony repertoire. Music must be memorized for consideration for First, Second, or Third place.
Applicant's audition must be accompanied (this includes senior division pianists). Applicant should arrange for an accompanist, or a list of accompanists will be provided for you. Accompanist fees are the responsibility of the applicant.
- Senior Division: participants must perform a solo piece from a concerto composition which has symphony orchestration and is consistent with symphony performance.
- Junior Division: follow the above guidelines, if possible. You may play a sonata or classical piece of your choice. It does not have to have orchestral accompaniment. Pianists must have four years of experience or a Level 3 in piano proficiency.
Participants should choose their own pieces for the competition that are appropriate for their ability and vocal range. Participants are encouraged to consider the below list of pieces for audition. Choosing a piece from the below list may ensure a chosen vocalist "Young Artist Winner" will perform at the Concert on the Green event with full symphony accompaniment.
- Duparc - Chanson Triste (soprano, E flat)
- Gluck - Paris and Helen - O del mio dolce ardor (soprano, e minor)
- Puccini - O mio babbino caro (soprano, A flat)
- Sondheim/McNieland - Send in the Clowns (mezzo, E flat)
- Simon/Norman - How Could I Ever Know from Secret Garden (soprano, D flat/D)
- Schonberg/Krogstad - I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis (tenor, E flat.F)
- Rachmaninoff - Vocalise, op. 34 (E major)
- Scarlatti/McNieland - Amor preparami from Pompeo (F major)
- Smalls/Brown - If You Believe from The Wiz (B flat)
- Smalls/Brown - Hom from The Wiz (B flat)
All vocalist participants must perform TWO pieces which are consistent with symphony performance. Pieces with known symphony orchestration are preferred. One piece must be a classical art song or aria in the orginal language. One selection must be from a Broadway Show. Music must be memorized for consideration for First, Second, or Third place.
The Concert on the Green Young Artist Music Competition applicant's audition must be accompanied. The applicant should arrange for an accompanist. A list of accompanists can be provided by contacting Concert on the Green at firstname.lastname@example.org. Accompanist fees are the responsibility of the applicant.
First place, second place, third place, and honorable mention awards will be provided based on the performance at the finalist judging. A first place winner may also be awarded the "Young Artist Winner" if his/her performance is of the quality required to be performed on stage during the main event at Concert on the Green. The vocalist Young Artist Winner will perform as a highlighted portion of the main Concert on the Green event on stage with piano accompaniment. The vocalist Young Artist Winner will perform with full symphony accompaniment if the piece chosen for audition and final judging performance is one of the 10 pieces listed above.
